Year 10 INDONESIAN

Prerequisites: Year 9 Indonesian

Discovering a new culture is an immensely enriching experience. The study of Indonesian as a second language gives you access to a new world and the chance to meet new people. Overseas travel becomes more rewarding when you can communicate with the local people.

In addition to the rich cultural benefits that are coupled with learning a second language, an increasing number of employment opportunities become accessible. In a world where companies are constantly expanding overseas and dealing with clients from all over the world, bilingualism is highly regarded.

Universities have indicated that they strongly support initiatives that encourage students to study a language in their final years of schooling. The Victorian Baccalaureate has been awarded to students as of 2014 in support of the Victorian Government’s objectives to encourage more students to include a second language in their senior program.

Topics of study include:

  • Ceremonies and Celebrations
  • Student exchange
  • Health
  • Indonesian History
  • Life in the villages and cities

Students will develop their oral, written, comprehension and aural skills through engagement with a range of authentic and practical tasks. In the later years, Indonesian language students will engage in Skype classes with the Wisma Bahasa Language School to develop their spoken language skills; as well as have the opportunity to participate in the College Study Tour to Yogyakarta and Bali.
