Student leadership

Overview

The Dromana College Student Leadership Program aims to enrich students with a range of skills and opportunities to help build their capacity as current and future leaders.

The program recognises the vital importance and power of student voice within a college community. The program aims to harness the passion, innovation and desire for change found within young leaders and develop pathways for student voice. The Student Leadership Program offers opportunities from Year 7 all the way to Year 12 encompassing a wide range of student representation.

Dromana College Student Leaders represent their student body at a school level through the College Captains, College House and Domain Captains, and at year levels with opportunities for Year Level, Green Team, House and Sports Captains. These roles have been implemented to provide students with a range of application options that suit their area of passion, personality and interests.

The application process requires a written submission which is then followed by an interview process. The process is rigorous and equitable and ensures that all applicants are fairly appointed. Student Leaders attend regular  Junior and Senior School Meetings held at lunchtimes. Student Leaders attend the School Council Meetings and Domain Meetings within the college to provide valuable student insight and opinions for the teaching staff to consider. All students are welcome to apply to positions and attend meetings to raise and discuss ideas they have for the college.

The annual Dromana College Student Leadership Conference has been a highlight for many students collaborate and brainstorm collectively to develop a vision for their year ahead as leaders. There will be opportunities for students to meet visiting guest speakers who are community leaders and influencers of change to provide them with motivation and broader perspectives.

The Dromana College Student Leadership Program is committed to ongoing advocacy of important causes in the local community. Fundraising and food drives have been a key pillar underpinning the work of the Dromana College Student Leaders. Through their hard work they have collectively contributed to the college and wider community and will continue to do so. The Dromana College Student Leaders always aim to demonstrate their personal best, integrity, respect and responsibility in all that they do and achieve.
