Certificate II in Horticulture

This two year qualification is designed to reflect the role of employees who perform a range of tasks in horticulture vocations.

Students will complete two core units:

Followed by an additional units taken across the two years:

YEAR 1 –  Nursery Focus
  • Pot up plants
  • Tend to nursery plants
  • Undertake propagation activities
  • Determine basic properties of soil/growing mediums
  • Recognise plants
  • Collect, prepare, preserve plant specimens
  • Apply chemicals under supervision
YEAR 2 –  Parks and Gardens Focus
  • Plant trees and shrubs
  • Prune small trees and shrubs
  • Prepare and maintain plant displays
  • Plant horticultural crops
  • Shift materials safely, using manual handling techniques
  • Follow basic chemical safety rules
  • Operate basic machinery and equipment


      To successfully complete the Certificate II in Horticulture students must complete the required units across two years.

     VET Horticulture will run at Dromana College session 3 and 4 each Wednesday. It is suitable only for VCAL students and Year 10 students who are intending to follow a VCAL Pathway.
