VCE EXTENDED INVESTIGATION 3/4
Unit 3: Designing an Extended Investigation
Unit 4: Presenting an Extended Investigation
The VCE Extended Investigation enables students to develop, refine and extend knowledge and skills in independent research and carry out an investigation that focuses on a rigorous research question. The investigation may be an extension of an area of curriculum already undertaken by the student or it may be completely independent of any other study in the student’s VCE program. Through this study, students develop their capacity to explore, justify and defend their research findings in both oral and written forms to a general, or non-specialist audience.
As a VCE Unit 3 /4 subject this subject is recommended for students with high level literacy skills and is ideal for students intending on following a university pathway.
Assessment for the subject includes:
- Unit 3 Written rationale (800 words), Written research plan (1000 words), Oral report (12–16 minutes, 6–8 minutes for presentation, 6–8 minutes for question and answer segment). (30 per cent)
- Unit 3 Critical Thinking Test (10 per cent)
- Unit 4 Written report including evaluation (4000 words), Oral presentation including response to panel questions (15–20 minutes) (60 per cent)
