LEAP at Dromana College

Fast track to high achievement

What is LEAP?

The Learning Extension and Acceleration Program [LEAP] is offered to a limited number of capable and committed students whose academic skills are above those of their peer group. LEAP students are presented with a challenging curriculum that allows them to investigate and explore topics in a classroom with like-minded students.

How does the program work?

LEAP is open to students who have enrolled at Dromana College and are entering Year 7 in 2020. The students remain in the same class for two years. In Year 9 the LEAP students are able to choose and specialise in the areas of their interest, whilst still enjoying the challenges of the curriculum.  In the junior years, the students will experience acceleration in the curriculum that caters to their needs. The LEAP students are also offered all the extra curriculum activities that Dromana College offers. These students participate in sport, camps, clubs and a range of pastoral programs with their peers. This encourages our LEAP students to be involved in the broader social aspects of school and encourages a number of leadership opportunities.

How to apply for LEAP

LEAP is suitable for academically talented students who have a level of maturity and commitment. They need to be capable of learning independently and be able to work in group situations. It is expected that LEAP students and all Year 7 students will have a laptop.

Based on these results, students will be offered a place in LEAP for 2020. Places are limited and are based on academic merit.
